Amazon Prime Video is a video streaming service that features a library of ad-free on-demand content. If you aren't a Prime member, you can still rent content on a pay-per-title basis or subscribe to the membership.

High-Quality Original Content

Amazon Prime Video has its own original content, although not in the same volume as Netflix. Still, Good Omens is amazing, Mrs. Maisel has won awards and Fleabag is a masterpiece. These are the jewels scattered among the mediocre shows. The app is best suited for people who can put a bit of search work to find a truly interesting title.

Outside of Amazon originals, there are other TV shows to watch, including all-time classics. It's also easy to find and pay for shows and movies not included into your plan while keeping your content in one place. However, if you don't want to buy anything, it can get annoying to have all titles mixed on one platform.

Crowded Interface

One of the app's biggest issues is that it shoehorns all features into the main screen. Even though the interface's organization has improved greatly during the past few years, Amazon should structure everything better.

Finding content is confusing and seems like an incentive to buy titles. Every movie has a Prime tag, which is easy to miss if you're new to the service. At the top, you can select between seven menus. Below that, Amazon highlights popular TV shows and movies. When you search for a title, the app will bring a long list of films. You have to look carefully to find the right one.

We really like the Now Playing screen and its clean layout. In addition to play, rewind, and forward buttons, the app offers subtitles and streaming quality options.

HDR+ Format

Every HDR title on Amazon Prime Video is available in HDR10+, a format that adds dynamic metadata to create better color reproduction. However, this format is only supported by a few 4K TVs from 2017 or later. Amazon also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos surround sound. It is early days for these technologies, so hardware capability is limited to the newest TVs. The list of titles that support these formats is also very short.

The tech giant's streaming service offers high-quality movies and shows and an impressive catalog of older titles. If you're looking for a collection of TV and movie content in one place, you can't go wrong with Amazon Prime Video. The app sets the bar high for content. Amazon is cheap and has tons of content to choose from, but the interface is a bit confusing to navigate.
