Microsoft Excel is a program for creating and editing tables, created by Microsoft in 1985 for Macintosh and recently ported to mobile devices.

Design, Navigation, and Usability: Stylish, Yet Not Intuitive

The mobile port of Excel is stylish, as the design is similar to the desktop version. However, the fact that it is pleasing to the eye does not save it from being not so intuitive and user friendly.

Other Office apps for mobile are much better in these terms, but Excel is a very complicated program with a lot of features. Shoving them into a mobile app is hard and even Microsoft hasn’t yet managed to make it convenient to use. Viewing documents is fine, but when it comes to editing, you will most probably want to switch on the desktop right away.

Features: Not the Same as On PC

Excel’s mobile version is a powerful tool with a lot of features. With the app, you can create and edit charts and graphs, use tools and formulas to perform calculations, filter and sort data, share files via different methods, synchronize files with your OneDrive, and many more.

The desktop version has more features, as the mobile one lacks macros, for example. The full list of feature differences is available at the Microsoft website.

Working in Excel on mobile devices is not so convenient as on desktop, as it requires learning as well and the design is not so functional. It is impossible to use the features with the same efficiency as on desktop, but the app is still a good choice to review documents or correct something in them on the go.

Security: Microsoft Got It

The app is part of the Office suite and is developed and managed by Microsoft, meaning the security corresponds to enterprise-level safety standards. The OneDrive storage, where you can locate your files is as well protected by Microsoft and the app has never been part of major security controversies, so we fairly consider it to be very safe to use.

Verdict

Excel is a powerful app for spreadsheet management, though it is not so convenient to use on mobile. In case you use the desktop version a lot and sometimes have to edit or view something on the go, this should be your choice. But in case you are looking for an app for mobile-only use, you should probably check out other apps.
